Steertrak

In Brief

- Wheel alignment app on tablet technology

- Performs all geometric calculations

- All data stored in the cloud

- Eliminates unnecessary paperwork

Established in 1984, Steertrak has grown to become the UK’s largest on-site commercial vehicle wheel alignment and axle alignment specialists, utilising the latest laser technology accepted as the “Gold Standard” for truck alignment by virtually all European truck manufacturers.

The Challenge

Steertrak needed a system that would replace their process of filling in handwritten report sheets in triplicate. At the end of the week, report sheets and job cost data would be posted or faxed to the office and when the paperwork arrived at the Steertrak control room, staff would manually re-key the data to create invoices and forward the report sheets on to the customer.

This whole process could take up to two or three weeks. Steertrak needed to improve the time taken to invoice customers and to improve the accuracy of the data to eliminate any errors which occurred when re-keying information or interpreting hand-written reports.

The Solution

Steertrak had a requirement to build a customised application that could be used on tablet devices. Using pre-built components to enable faster delivery, the app is designed to perform all of the technical wheel alignment geometry calculations, collect vehicle and cost data, and automatically send this to the back-office or directly on to customers.

It is downloaded directly from the Microsoft Windows app store for Windows 8.1 devices.

The system also makes available to the technician the manufacturers’ vehicle specifications risk assessments, and other relevant data.

Should any device be damaged or lost, all data is stored remotely in the cloud, so can be accessed by anyone with the necessary security credentials on another device. The application runs even if there is no internet signal, and uploads data when the signal returns.

The company is now able to retrieve data on any vehicle that it has worked on throughout the country, in a matter of seconds. This was previously impossible with paper records, when technical reports were kept in lever arch files.

The access to information means that Steertrak is able to run a much tighter ship and can complete jobs more quickly and efficiently whilst providing better customer service through more prompt and accurate invoices.
